Nic Watkin

The Suthers School

Nic is Head Teacher at The Suthers School in Fernwood. She started her career as an NQT teaching English and Drama at The Banovallum School; a small Secondary Modern school in Horncastle where the personalisation of learning was a huge priority.

Nic realised her motivation to ensure all students had the drive to become the very best version of themselves. She quickly became Second in English and Lead teacher of Drama at Key Stage 3. In this role, she focused on providing various opportunities to enrich her students' lives and achieve their goals. Students are always at the heart of everything Nic does. She mapped many curriculum opportunities: trips to West End Theatres in London, Slam Jam Poetry competitions against other schools in the county which produced a winning performance, and she secured opportunities for students to be live radio presenters for the day at BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

Nic’s passion for the arts was exemplified through various school productions she directed, including ‘Oliver Twist’, ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and ‘Annie’. One of Nic’s proudest moments is when one of her performing arts students became a West End lead. Nic has a strong passion for the arts so could not miss the opportunity to take the position of Head of Faculty for English, Media and Performing Arts at Kirkby College in 2012, a school which required improvement.

In 2015, Nic completed her NPQSL with a focus on Teaching and Learning and staff coaching. Nic’s previous role was Deputy Head Teacher at Newark Academy, where she played a key role in securing Ofsted’s Good judgement for the school in 2019.

Nic has always had the vision to be a Head Teacher. Now in the position, Nic is determined to enrich the lives of all students who attend The Suthers School and she will continue to listen and support the development of all students and staff to enjoy school, learn ambitious knowledge and be confident and proud of who they are as a person.
